Regions of the world you have worked: North East

Resume: I am a graduate surveyor highly interested in obtaining a permanent placement within the sector of offshore surveying. I have a strong interest in the area of position monitoring and bathymetric survey techniques.

I first became interested in the area of surveying during a secondary school field course in the Lake District studying the effects of relief in the town of Keswick. More individual research into larger scale projects, such as my final year dissertation at university, has strengthened my interests.

My final year at university has brought my interests closer to the area of offshore surveying, being a key module in the second semester. Through a visit to the North Tyneside Port of Tyne surveying vessel, where I was able to experience the process of a bathymetric survey interlinking positioning and mapping systems, and attending Hydrofest, Aberdeen, in April this year, my interests in this specific area of surveying have increased. Listening to people talk about their own roles in the surveying industry has also given me a wider scope to the equipment types used and processes undertaken to survey offshore areas. What also draws me to the offshore sector is my interest in GNSS applications, being a large factor that has to be considered when positioning a vessel to account for errors resulting from continuous movement.

Through my degree course, especially during the final year, my interest in this area has widely developed and my abilities in field and laboratory work have improved over time. I have experience in field work such as traversing and levelling and laboratory work in dealing with large scientific earth observation datasets such as UNAVCO and IGS, as well as gaining experience in using related software packages. I have achieved a 2:1 as a final grade for my degree, having maintained this level throughout the first two years.

I would be a suitable candidate for a placement within the offshore sector as I want more than just a career from my degree. The possibility of working in the area I have enjoyed learning about most highly appeals to me. I am a keen worker, very flexible and capable of working as part of a team or individually and adapting easily to new environments. I believe the skills I have developed throughout my time at university would be a helpful contribution to the institute.

I would be very grateful if you considered me for any suitable positions. I am available for interview at any time and currently available to be contacted at my home address. Please Find attached my CV where you will find further information.
